Social Use of Language Programme (SULP)

SULP is a formal programme, devised by Wendy Rinaldi, to improve pupils’ ability to interact and understand social conventions. Small group work is held for an hour a week and there are often pupils from mainstream within the groups. This enables friendships to form outside the resource provision.

The programme is followed throughout the pupils’ 5 years at The Vyne. Topics include listening, taking turns, self-awareness, health and sex education, life skills and, in the final years interview techniques, application forms and revision techniques.

Students are given regular opportunities to practice and develop the skills they learn in SULP within the classroom and the wider school environment.
