Friday 10th May 2019

Good Afternoon,

Today we held the final assembly for Year 11 before exams start on Monday. The students have been working hard and settled well to their final preparations. They just need to treat this like an endurance sporting event now and pace themselves, being sure to get enough sleep, eat well and keep focussed on their goal. All the staff are equally focussed on doing everything they can to support Year 11 to be as successful as possible during the exam season, so students need to ask us if there is anything we can do to help.

Thank you to all the staff and parents for all your hard work in supporting the students to this point. We are all behind you and know you will do an excellent job.

Good Luck Year 11!

Mrs Pearce

Superstars Event

The Vyne travelled to QMC for the annual Superstars competition on Wednesday 1st May. This event is where the Basingstoke and surrounding areas send their best all round sportsmen and women. The Vyne took a strong team ready to compete in a number of sporting challenges designed to test their all-round ability. All pupils performed excellently throughout the day with some stand out performances from Amy F (Year 8) finishing 3rd overall individually and Charlotte E (Year 7) finishing 2nd overall, both out of 20 competitors. The Vyne eventually finished 6th place overall when all of the scores had been totalled. Well done again Vyne pupils, top effort!

Unfortunately due to the weather the Year 8 and 10 rounders matches had to be cancelled this week, but hopefully next week we will see some sunshine and the matches will go ahead. We are also looking forward to the cricket fixtures starting next week too.

Year Group Assemblies and News

Year 7 Mr Duffy

Students have been with tutors this week, and now might be a good time to recheck equipment. Students need to have a pencil case with pens (Black / Blue and a green pen), pencil, ruler, eraser and a highlighter is always helpful. Please ensure you sign planners each week too.

Year 8 Mr Crees

The Year 8 students have had an opportunity to spend more time with their tutor groups this week in order to build some Vyne cohesion. The students are responding well to spending time with their peers and with their tutors.

Year 9 Miss Buckland

Year 9 have been doing more planning for the Peace Garden and we look forward to sharing pictures as works begin.

Year 10 Mr Coomber

QMC and BCoT will be coming into The Vyne after half term to speak to the Year 10 students about possible future pathways. Mrs Wood, our Careers Advisor will also be meeting the students individually over the coming weeks to provide information, advice and guidance on their choices of further education, training and work.

Year 11 Mr Morey

Next week will see the start of the final exams. Year 11 students should have a copy of the exam timetable to ensure they turn up on time and can prioritise their revision over the next month. If this is not the case, please contact Mr Morey immediately. Mrs Gibson's assembly today outlined all the key information students need about the exams and recapped the rules and expectations. I would like to wish all the Year 11 students every success over the exam period and remember to believe in yourself!

Also this week, the Leavers Ball invite letters have been sent out. The Ball this year will be taking place at Audley's Wood Hotel on Thursday 20th June. Please return permission slips ASAP. Payments can be sent to the finance office or made online through your Tucasi account.

DATE CHANGE - Leavers assembly will now be on Friday 14th June after the final exam.

Year 11 Top Tip for GCSE success - from Mrs Gibson

Be prepared. Arriving late, ill prepared or lacking in equipment can be very detrimental to the start of any day, let alone an exam. Ensure this weekend your children get their exam packs ready. They will need the following as a minimum:

Blue and black biros- make sure they have spares!

A clear pencil case to keep everything in

A clear water bottle with all labels removed

Mobile phones are not permitted in the exams and please also ensure any smart watches are left at home.

Reassure them that they are ready. We are all proud of them and  behind them all of the way! Hold on to your hats, let’s hit these exams hard! Good Luck!

Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Mr Morey if you have any  concerns at all.

As a reminder, please open the link below to see the full schedule during the examination period.
